Gretchen Collins | Mystery Enthusiast

I’ve never committed a crime—nor do I intend to—but that doesn’t stop me from loving a good mystery. I’m a thriller writer living in Southwest Colorado with my brilliant and supportive husband, two inspiring and wonderfully busy kids, and a gentle descendant of wolves. My novels, Terminal and Fatal, are available wherever books are sold.

My spark began in a small Bavarian library. I was living there temporarily, surrounded by shelves of books I couldn’t read—except for one small section in English. Determined to read every title within a year, I stumbled upon a book about writing a novel in 30 days. The idea was wild: start on November 1st, end with 50,000 words by November 30th.

Could I do it? Maybe. And if it was terrible, well, at least there wouldn’t be many witnesses.

What began as a personal challenge turned into pure joy. The process—the rhythm of writing, the freedom of creating worlds—was electric. That’s when I realized the thrill of storytelling wasn’t something I wanted to read about anymore. It was something I wanted to live.

I never made it through the whole library, but I discovered something far better: I can write my own stories.
